The Love of a Son to a Mother

"I'm sure any parent that discovers that their youngest son has a tattoo would be surprised or as angry as my parents got."

Emmanuel got his tattoo at the age of 16, written on the scroll is his mother's birth name. His justification for getting his tattoo was that he wanted to show his mom that she was the rose in his heart. I've heard many people(adults) say that teenagers get the stupidest tattoos and end up regretting it in the end. But in this case it was the total opposite, yeah he just got it for no apparent reason but now it seems to have inspired him to get even more.
When I first saw his tattoo I thought the worst, since me and him have grown-up in Christian households. To me, it seemed as if he was going through some sort-of a "rebel stage". When I asked him if he thinks that Christianity looks at tattoos different in a way where they accept them now and he said no. He knows that the Christian community tattoos are frowned upon but he didn't care, again I thought "rebel stage". After hearing him out, my mind seemed to have crossed-out "rebel stage" and substitute it for expressing yourself however you want to.
As I mentioned earlier, Emmanuel really believes that his tattoo has a really strong sentimental value considering that a rose is his mother's favorite flower. Emmanuel has always been a momma's-boy, especially when his parents split-up a couple years ago he has got extremely closer to her. As teenagers of this generation we've come to express ourselves much more differently, now in days we get tattoos... back in the day they'd just give a couple of flowers and a nice letter. At least now he can show his mom that he truly loves her forever since tattoos are permanent and flowers are temporary.
